Crypto Industry Hit by $163M in Hacks During August, Including Major BTC Whale Attack

Gate News bot message, The cryptocurrency sector recorded $163 million in total losses from security breaches during August 2023. The most significant incident involved a $91 million social engineering attack targeting a Bitcoin whale.

The major project-specific attacks during this period included Turkish exchange BtcTurk suffering a $54 million breach, Venus Protocol experiencing a $13 million exploit which was subsequently restored, Odin Protocol losing $7 million, BetterBank being compromised for $5 million, and CrediX recording a $4 million loss.
