From Korolyov to Toronto: A Growth Journey
Vitalik Buterin's story begins in Korolyov, Moscow Region, on January 31, 1994. His father, Dmitry Buterin, was engaged in computer science research and had promoted technological innovation at the Moscow branch of the American auditing firm Arthur Andersen. His mother, Natalia Ameline, is an economic analyst and a graduate of Moscow Electronic Technology College. Such a family background provided young Vitalik with a solid foundation of knowledge.
In 2000, when Vitalik was only six years old, the family moved to Canada. This migration marked a pivotal turning point in his life. In Toronto, he attended a gifted children’s school, where his talents in mathematics, programming, and economics began to emerge. According to his own recollections, his father was surprised that he was writing articles for the Bitcoin Weekly on a part-time basis, earning only $1.50 an hour — but this was precisely the beginning of Vitalik stepping into the crypto world.
