I've never understood why people have such a strong tendency to compare themselves to others. Once, a friend of mine, upon learning that my boyfriend didn't own a car, would occasionally mention in front of me that her boyfriend drives a car worth over a million. Before I bought my own car, she told me she had several cars. It wasn't until later that I found out she was making it all up just to belittle me. As expected, people without a tendency to compare themselves to others also don't feel insecure.
