Theme 1: The future of gaming is now
Three years ago, there were very few web3 games for players to discover and explore. In 2023, more than 40 playable Web3 games were exhibited at the YGG Web3 Game Summit, attracting more than 5,300 game players on site and thousands of online players participating.
During the fireside chat, Gabby cited an article from BitPinas, the Philippines’ leading cryptocurrency and blockchain news publication, which listed 8 interesting Web3 games that are now playable. As many web3 games combine free-to-play (F2P) models with blockchain elements, games such as Ragnarok Landverse, Mighty Action Heroes, Anito Legends, Axie Infinity: Origins, Pixelmon, PROJECT XENO, Parallel, and MetaCene are reducing player engagement Threshold because they prioritize user experience and the possibility of ease of use.
At the height of the 2021 bull market, a lot of money poured into web3 games, and now, after two years in development, these web3 games are launching and proving that they are fun, easy to use, and appeal to a wider audience beyond native web3 players.

Gabby emphasized: “What is a guild, but a group of players doing things together? I don’t think this concept will really disappear. People want to get together and play games. I think guilds will always exist.”
Topic 3: Web3 tasks as user acquisition method
Traditional user acquisition (UA) strategies follow a top-of-the-funnel approach by leveraging ads on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. to market the game to a very broad audience, including anyone who might be interested in playing the game.
In web3, a “bottom of the funnel” approach has emerged, placing games in front of more targeted known players who possess the necessary attributes, skills and achievements, which can all be verified on-chain, thus Players are proven to be a good fit for the game’s style and requirements, and they are more likely to become fans of the game than download it and play it once. Gabby emphasizes building esports communities from a grassroots level, and YGG prioritizes supporting small content creators so they can share in the growth of their games and communities.
The shift from token rewards to more novel participation models also prioritizes long-term commitment and meaningful contributions over grinding. Dedicated contributors can be rewarded over the long term, aligning their success with the overall trajectory of the gaming ecosystem.
Esports media company MetaSports, backed by guild and gaming infrastructure BlockchainSpace, is a prime example of their partnership with established and emerging content creators, including Yellowpanther and Kookoo, as well as brands, communities and DAOs such as esports-focused Paladins DAO) cooperation. These collaborations foster a competitive yet welcoming community designed to attract any player willing to participate in the next wave of gaming.
“I’m a big fan of grassroots, community tournaments,” Gabby said. “Let’s see if players actually enjoy this game. Let’s see if this game is a good fit for esports.
