Today, BTC Bitcoin Core developer Luke Dashjr posted on Platform X: "Inscriptions are spamming blockchains by exploiting a vulnerability in BTC core client, Bitcoin Core. Since 2013, Bitcoin Core has allowed users to set an additional data size limit (‘-datacarriersize’) when relaying or mining transactions. By obfuscating its data into program code, the inscription bypasses this restriction. This vulnerability was recently fixed in Bitcoin Knots V2 5.1. Since my workflow was severely disrupted at the end of last year (V2 4 was skipped entirely), the fix took longer than usual. In the upcoming V2 6 release, Bitcoin Core still has vulnerabilities. I can only hope that it will get a final fix before next year’s V2 7. ”
This remark stirred up a thousand waves with one stone and triggered a heated discussion in the community@AurtrianAjian Opinion:
Rest assured, shitcoins won’t die because you shitcoiners have always been around. Where there’s demand, there’s supply, and you’ll find new casinos without BTC (and even BTC can’t shut you out). But that’s why I’m rooting for Luke, because you can go anywhere else. I’ll run Bitcoin Knots.
Luke Dashjr also contributed code to the Bitcoin Core software, but this time the software he released was Bitcoin Knots, which he developed himself. He hopes that Bitcoin Core v2 7 will be patched, but this is only his personal hope, and he will have to convince other Bitcoin Core developers to do so. Taking a step back, Luke himself knows that these shitcoins are technically unstoppable…
No matter how detailed the restriction is, it will reserve a portion of the space so as not to interfere with normal usage, and the shitcoin will take advantage of it. The current patching method is at the policy level of the node’s transaction pool, that is, the node can not forward these shitcoin transactions, but because these transactions do not violate the consensus rules, once they enter the BTC block, they will still be accepted and saved by the whole network.
So, 1. It is technically difficult to prohibit it completely; The formation of network-wide restrictions requires the consensus of most node operators;3. Directly communicate with the miners to bypass the restrictions available to the full node (miners are still supporting you, aren’t they). What else do you have to worry about? Take your shitcoin and continue to play and dance, and that’s it.
Probably one of the best comments I’ve heard is, does he want to ban it, where do you think this is, does he ETH it? Excellent and very good summary of the characteristics of the BTC community. But to ask rhetorically, the BTC network is not his, but is it yours? Although he can only represent him alone, how can you represent justice and others?
If you own a BTC, it just means that you are the owner of a certain UTXO. But no one is the master of the BTC network. Instead, the operator of each node is the owner of its own node. This owner can decide what software to run, which transactions to forward, and which set of consensus rules to use. BTC there is no pope and there is no need for it, and each node operator has its own sovereignty.
Luke isn’t so arrogant as to think that everyone will listen to him, and he doesn’t think he can represent everyone who contributes code to Bitcoin Core. He just releases his own software and that’s it. He’s just giving software to people who want to say no to it. He was just publishing his personal petition. If you feel offended, then I don’t mind offending you again: do you have your own full node?
People with full nodes don’t need your representative. Why can’t I not forward your shitcoin transactions? Do you need to send shitcoin transactions and don’t you send them yourself with full nodes? You can also send them directly to the miners
You can laugh happily and healthily, and by the way, you can slander a BTC developer with bad intentions or accuse him of being narrow-minded, and then laugh at him for being a car.
But that doesn’t change anything. You’re still a shitcoiner. You’ll still have shitcoin in your hand.
Luke doesn’t do everything right, he doesn’t do everything well, and I don’t think of Luke’s brain as my brain. But he’s a hero.
