Recently, I talked to many investors and friends who are doing DAO incubation, and everyone is very curious, what are the DAO Tools incubated within the DAO, and what types of DAO Tools are being developed by the community.
In the Web3 social track, community-first has become the third path (the other two are protocol-first, product-first), and a tokenized community will develop its own tools and applications, serve its own community, and turn itself into a “customer 0”, and then gradually expand to other communities. With this model, what type of DAO Tool has emerged?
The following is an introduction to the 16 DAO Tools generated by the community-first model.
These 4 products are currently fully used within FWB and have not yet been rolled out to other DAOs.
At that time, the FWB community felt that the Discourse forum was too difficult to use, Discord was difficult to use for complex governance discussions and voting, and there was no “forum + voting” product for DAOs on the market, so they formed a team to develop Upvote.
At the time, Metaforo was also immature.
FWB is the first DAO to offer an “on-chain passport” for DAO members. At present, more than 95% of the data of the self-developed FWB BIO comes from the on-chain/online behavior of DAO members, and less than 5% of the data comes from the offline behavior of FWB IRL.
At present, FWB’s global offline IRL venues have installed self-developed Gatekeepers, which can be entered with NFTs or tokens.
FWB DAO has developed an NFT auction platform to provide these artists with a more creative way to auction NFTs.
BanklessDAO’s self-developed 5 DAO Tools
These 5 products are currently being used within BanklessDAO.
Step-by-step quizzes (Quest) to help Web2 beginners achieve literacy.
The BanklessDAO community felt that Discord’s voting bot was not designed to be reasonable (e.g., you can see the current results before voting), and developed a gov bot for various governance votes on Discord.
bountyboard.bankless.community, which is used to send bounty tasks.
Discord interactive bot, which is mainly used to improve the automation of BanklessDAO’s management in Discord.
A payment gateway at Layer 2.
These 3 products are in the beta phase and are used in the SeeDAO community.
A decentralized education Dapp that hosts Web3 University, as well as other DAOs.
Promoted by decentralized collaboration among community members, it is positioned as a DAO infrastructure. With the upgraded monster-fighting educational experience, it helps the learned content to quickly put into the practice of the DAO, and at the same time, the on-chain achievement system helps the talent flow of D2D.
Visualize/gamify communities to make onboarding and community discussions more fun.
A DAO version of Gather.town has been developed, and the organizational structure of Discord can be imported into DAOLink with one click to form a visual community. DAOLink currently uses Discord as a user portal, in the form of components, to help DAO organizations better complete onboarding.
The core members of the team are veterans of the game industry, and they are deeply involved in the practice of DAOs, and the product idea comes from community discussions. The MVP phase was a buzz and attracted a lot of community developers.
SBT (Soulbound Token) issuance tool. Users can customize SBT templates on the web at will, and they can be issued with one click. At the same time, it supports the authorization management of the DAO to the guild and the project. Currently, SeeDAO guilds and projects are using Ensoul.
JokeDAO’s self-developed voting system was originally used to rank each joke every week.
Because the voting system is designed to be very flexible and community-oriented, many new small but beautiful DAOs, such as rehash, have begun to be adopted.
The main highlights of JokeDAO’s self-developed voting system are as follows:
Some DAOs don’t have tokens;
JokeDAO’s voting system can temporarily issue tokens for a vote, which can be used for one-time voting. 14 tokens will also be issued for each NFT, and NFT holders of the DAO can vote separately for multiple options. At the beginning of August, Packy McCormick, the founder of Not Boring, posted an idea on Twitter, and people with ideas left ENS, and then used JokeDAO’s voting system to send tokens to these people, so that they could send proposals, vote, and do things.
Onchain execution after voting. Some tokens can be staked, and the voting will be automatically executed on-chain after passing (e.g., token distribution, automatic mint NFT, etc.);
This feature is still a work in progress.
Yearn’s self-developed coordinape is used to pay Yearn’s contributors. Soon coordinape was used by BanklessDAO, Gitcoin, Sushiswap, DAOhaus, PoolTogether, Index Coop, MetaCartel, mStable, and most of the ecosystems extended by these well-known DAOs are also using coordinape.
In August of this year, coordinape released CoVaults, which provide vault management, automatic payment of fixed salaries, UBI (Universal Basic Income) and other features as “Lego bricks” and welcome other DAO integrations.
DeveloperDAO has a large number of developers who have previously developed a DAO Tool specifically designed to provide Web3 job information to developers.
This DAO Tool, later named pallet, was spun off and specialized in providing recruitment services for Web3 companies.
LexDAO focuses on research on the legal issues involved in Web3 products. A DAO Tool has been developed in-house to help users set up DAO quickly and compliantly, while being able to bring in LexDAO’s consulting services.
This DAO Tool, later named Kali, became independent and participated in the SeedClub incubation.
