Hello everyone, I stayed up late this morning to study Microsoft’s offline press conference, and extracted some key points, hoping to give you some inspiration. Thank you all for your support and likes!Welcome to forward!
Microsoft held a media event in Redmond in the early morning of Beijing time today, and it is expected to announce the latest news around Microsoft’s products and artificial intelligence.
In 2019, Microsoft invested $1 billion in OpenAI and became a close partner of OpenAI, while Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI, launched in 2021, allows Microsoft cloud service customers to use a variety of OpenAI tools, such as the ChatGPT-based GPT-3.5 system, and the Dall-E model, which can generate images through text prompts. ChatGPT was launched at the end of November 2022 and quickly swept the internet, with millions of users quickly reaching its name.
In early January 2023, Microsoft was already discussing incorporating OpenAI’s technology into Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other applications so that users could automatically generate text with simple prompts, and in late January 2023, Microsoft announced that it would soon add ChatGPT to Azure cloud services.
In addition, the beta version of the new version of Microsoft’s Bing + Chatgpt will be launched, which is even more noticeable in the face of the moment when Google has just announced the release of the Bard chatbot.
The new version of Bing that has been circulating online before is characterized by a chat box instead of a search box, and you can talk to a search engine like a human, find information and search web queries in natural language.
The press conference proposed that the new version of Microsoft’s search engine will be launched in beta on the desktop, and the mobile version will also be launched soon.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella came to the stage first and joked that we were going to talk about Kubernetes, and everyone laughed (haha). Nadella talked about the current situation at Microsoft, including all the business milestones that Microsoft has experienced in the past, and Nadella mentioned President Carter and the economic and inflation issues it faced at the time.
“How can Microsoft overcome these challenges,” he said.
After sharing some anecdotes about Microsoft and technology, Nadella (the Microsoft members who answered questions about the event) started answering questions about Bing ChatGPT and OpenAI.
The new Microsoft Bing is not Tay 2.0, and starting today, Microsoft’s ChatGPT-backed search engine Bing will be open to everyone to try out, and everyone will be able to try the new Bing soon.

The New bing:
OpenAI: next gen language model
Prometheus Model: Improve relevancy, annotate answers, up to date results, understand geolocation, increase safety.
Core search index: We applied the AI model and we saw the largest jump in relevance in two decades.
User Experience (unified); search coming together answers, chat, and the browser.
Q: About advertising: Are there any plans to include advertising?
Re: Ads are there at the beginning.
Q: Are there any costs to the end user? A lot of the stuff shown is fact-based. Does this help people with creative writing?**
Answer: There is no charge, it is free, and it helps people to make creative examples.
Q: Will developers get an API that can throttle these queries?**
A: We are continuing to evaluate our products, and there will be some differences in the restriction area
Q: Can I use it in Chrome or other browsers?
Answer: We want to bring this feature to all browsers, just starting with Edge. Chrome needs to be set up with some features in order to use, but we are intended for all browsers.
Q: ChatGPT sometimes hallucinates and makes things up, have you overcome this problem, or are users likely to see it?**
Answer: We’ve been working on this since the beginning, we’re testing the model, and we’re trying to keep it down-to-earth, but at the moment it’s not perfect (We’ve been working on this since the beginning. We are measuring where the model is not staying grounded in the search results, but it’s not perfect. Users will see where it’s changing a small number or something.)
Q: What efforts have you made to make this product sustainable and computationally optimized?**
Answer: We want it to be smart to distinguish between when strict calculations are going to be used and when they aren’t going to be so heavy.
Q: Will the generated content be fully marked as AI-generated?
Answer: Our vision is to assist, not to expect Bing to fully generate and write things.
Q: Why not rebrand Bing?**
Answer: We believe that [this ChatGPT revolution] is all about a new understanding of search, and we love the Bing brand, so we should stick with it and continue to call it Bing.
Q: What is the cost of running queries on GPT versus traditional searches?**
Answer: I am not going to answer this question.
Q: Here, the relevance and freshness of the data will be very important. For example, does Bing give fresh training data, live news sources, or a combination of the two?**
Answer: We’ll test it soon to see if it knows about the event.
Q: About Bing’s accuracy. **
Answer: We don’t always get it 100% right, Bing is always learning and iterating. And the key here is, how do you put the information into practice? Give it more data. Accuracy can be improved.
Q: Regarding the timeliness of the information in the model, for example, if a new TV has just been released, will the robot know?**
Answer: We’ll be impressed with the recency.
Q: Will a lot of bad content be returned to the model for the model to learn?**
Answer: Combining search with the model means that you can use search for fact-checking. When the two are combined, it is possible to examine and create a balance.
Note: The upcoming Microsoft investor conference call will provide more details about the revenue and competition aspects of this new version of Bing, and the author will further analyze it.
