ChainCatcher news, according to a CNBC survey, although 84% of respondents expect Trump to nominate Kevin Hassett, director of the National Economic Council, to take over as Fed chairman, only 11% think he is the right person. 47% of respondents favored Fed Governor Christopher Waller and 23% supported Kevin Warsh, but only 5% thought Trump would choose one of the two. The market is concerned about whether Hassett can stick to the Fed’s dual mission of stabilizing prices and full employment, and whether he can maintain the independence of the central bank from political interference, with 76% of respondents believing that the next chairman will be more dovish than Powell, and 51% believe that he will cater to the president’s willingness to cut interest rates rather than act independently.
