Men's restroom full, hiding in the women's restroom? Stealing company sofas and mineral water? The former "entrepreneurial genius" Chen Taiyuan is involved in absurd acts such as embezzlement and sexual harassment.

Media outlets such as Liberty Times and CTWANT have reported that Chen Tai-yuan, who co-founded “17 Live” with artist Huang Li-cheng and is known as a “startup genius” with a master's degree from National Taiwan University, is recently under investigation for allegedly misappropriating company assets, leading to a police search.

He is also accused of a series of bizarre misconducts – from using the excuse of “the men's restroom being full” to sneak into the women's restroom, to moving the company sofa and specific brand bottled water back to his home. This former startup golden boy is now facing multiple charges including theft, embezzlement, breach of trust, and workplace bullying.

Using the excuse of “men's restroom being full” to hide in the women's restroom and forcing female employees to “escort” them to the toilet.

According to reports, there have been internal complaints within the company that Chen Taiyuan's behavior in the workplace has severely crossed the line. In December 2022, Chen Taiyuan was found hiding in the women's restroom of a commercial building for over 20 minutes, causing a scare among female employees of the company due to the sound of a male coughing, which even alerted building security. When questioned, Chen Taiyuan absurdly claimed, “I went to the women's restroom because the men's restroom was full.”

What further drove the employees to despair was that afterwards, Chen Taiyuan not only did not restrain himself, but was also worried about being reported. He actually asked female colleagues in the company to “accompany” him in and out of the men's restroom, or to accompany him as he left the women's restroom. Under such bizarre demands for a long time, the female employees were physically and mentally exhausted, and had formally filed a workplace bullying complaint with the Taipei City Labor Bureau in mid-November.

Paranoia? Extravagance? Only drink “Babylon Alkaline Mineral Water”?

In addition to the gender harassment controversy, Chen Tai-yuan's financial and mental health has also raised concerns among his partners. According to allegations from Chen's colleagues, Chen Tai-yuan is extravagant in his living expenses, spending up to a million a month, and even demanding employees to use their personal credit cards to cover his expenses, with a single month's amount reaching as high as 500,000 New Taiwan Dollars.

In October this year, Chen Taiyuan took advantage of his partner Xu Jingteng being abroad and unexpectedly emptied the company's assets. In addition to computers, monitors, documents, and sofas, even personal belongings from employees' lockers were looted. The most astonishing part was that since Chen Taiyuan usually only drinks “Babylon Alkaline Mineral Water,” he even casually took the remaining 10 bottles of that brand of mineral water back to his residence in Neihu.

According to reports, the police are investigating Chen Taiyuan for allegedly unauthorizedly tampering with the passwords of the company's and partners' shared cryptocurrency accounts, transferring approximately 80,000 USDT into a personal wallet.

In response to the accusations from the police and his partners, Chen Taiyuan claimed that he is a shareholder of the company and that the items he moved back home were originally his property, used for “working from home and accounting purposes.” He also stated that using the employee card was a reimbursement for funds he had previously advanced for the company. However, in late November, the police, armed with a search warrant, went to his residence and confiscated related computers and cold wallets as evidence, and relevant accounts have been frozen.

Once a golden boy, now a defendant; shadows of violence loom.

Chen Tai-yuan has been embroiled in controversies, having once driven a Lamborghini into a rice field in Yilan, and he also sued his ex-girlfriend for stealing his black card. Friends who know him well disclosed that Chen has recently shown signs of emotional instability, exhibiting paranoid delusions. After reading a news article titled “Chairman Kills Technical Director,” he became convinced that he would be betrayed, leading him to act violently towards his partner Xu Jing-teng and the company's CTO, even shouting and throwing furniture in the office.

The case has now been transferred to the judiciary by the Taipei City Police on charges of theft, occupation, breach of trust, and obstruction of computer use, with Chen Tai-yuan being the person involved. Once regarded as a promising startup star, he now makes the industry and the public sigh in disbelief due to a series of absurd actions.
