On August 21, Jin10 reported that U.S. President Trump plans to issue an executive order aimed at cracking down on the act of burning the American flag, while circumventing a 1989 Supreme Court ruling that deemed flag burning as protected free speech. Two anonymous government officials said the executive order is set to be signed on Thursday. Under the order, the Department of Justice will review cases involving the burning of the American flag to determine if charges can be brought based on laws unrelated to the act of burning the flag itself, such as “obstructing public order” or “disturbing social peace.”
