Jin10 reported on August 21 that on the 20th local time, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry spoke with U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace Robert Malley to discuss the regional situation, particularly the disastrous situation in Gaza. Shoukry stated that Israel’s response to and implementation of the latest ceasefire proposal for Gaza is crucial for resolving the current crisis, protecting the lives of hostages, alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza, and ensuring sufficient aid enters Gaza to meet the needs of Palestinians suffering from systemic hunger policies. Shoukry emphasized the need to seize the current opportunity presented by Hamas’s acceptance of the U.S. proposal to push for an end to this unjust war, which has lasted nearly two years; a proposed 60-day ceasefire period must be utilized to negotiate an end to the war and lay the groundwork for a just resolution to the Palestinian issue.
