Threads has launched the message feature! Experience it first on the app version, and wait a bit longer for the web version.

Threads is no longer an extension of Instagram.

Threads was initially considered an extension of Instagram, Meta’s version of X (Twitter), with many features built on the foundation of Instagram, such as the ability to create a Threads account by importing your Instagram account, the account name following Instagram, and the blocking list being linked to Instagram as well. At the same time, Threads started out in a similar experimental nature, without commercial advertisements.

This year, Threads has started to introduce commercial advertising features. Similar to the Meta series of social platforms, it will display ads that users may be interested in based on their follows and likes. Recently, Threads has also integrated a messaging function. If users click on the small airplane ( send feature ) below the post, it will now default to the messaging function within Threads. If users want to send messages in the Instagram chatroom as before, they need to click on the Instagram messages below.

The author found that the messaging feature is quite basic, lacking private messages, images, and voice functionality. The messaging feature is located at the bottom of the mobile interface, while the original search function has been moved to the upper right corner. The desktop version has not been launched yet.

From the introduction of business advertising features to the built-in messaging function, it symbolizes that Threads has indeed become its own ecosystem, a standalone and complete social platform, rather than a subsidiary of Instagram or a forum that resembles X.
