A private dinner party for 220 holders of the most memecoin TRUMP – which has been controversial since its announcement – officially took place on May 22. Although promoted as the “most exclusive invitation in the world”, the event received mixed reactions from attendees.
The person holding the most TRUMP at the event is crypto billionaire and Tron founder, Justin Sun – who is also one of the most controversial figures of the night. According to New York Times, the event also gathered many renowned figures in the blockchain industry:
Evgeny Gaevoy – founder and CEO of Wintermute
Matthew Liu – co-founder of Origin Protocol
Jack Lu – CEO Magic Eden
Anil Lulla & Yan Liberman – co-founders of Delphi Digital
Complaints
Despite high expectations, many attendees left the event disappointed. Some claimed the food was “terrible,” with few drink options besides water and Trump-branded wine. Nicholas Pinto, 25 years old, told CNBC:
“The food is terrible… I don’t drink alcohol, only plain water, and my glass was only filled once.”
Pinto added that he was “very disappointed” that President Trump only made a brief appearance without interacting with the guests. According to WSJ, Trump arrived by helicopter at 7 PM, greeted a group of 25 people holding the most TRU in the VIP area, while the remaining 195 people opened gifts in the adjacent room. After delivering a speech reiterating old points, he left just 23 minutes later.
Cheng Lu, a 32-year-old crypto investor from Shanghai and one of the top 25 guests, confirmed that he also did not have the opportunity to talk to Trump despite attending the entire White House tour.
In addition, Pinto complained that the event’s security was lax, there were no sealed phone bags, and after Trump left, “no one cared anymore.”
He also revealed: many people no longer hold TRUMP, even checking the token price while eating. According to Wired, right after the guest list was confirmed, about half started selling off. The price of TRUMP dropped by 8% after the event, and the amount of tokens held by the guests decreased from 11.3 million to 7 million.
Positive Aspects
Not everyone is disappointed. Former NBA star Lamar Odom is taking advantage of the event to promote his own memecoin – ODOM.
Russian-born entrepreneur Nikita Anufrieve shared with WSJ:
“This is a historic moment when the 47th President, Donald Trump, speaks before us. No reward in the market can compare.”
He said he managed to connect with about 50 people at the event.
Morten Christensen – a former poker player now running a crypto website – called the party a “crazy experience.” He believes that Trump’s presence will instill confidence in investors and collectors in the future.
The CEO Sangrok Oh of Hyperithm ( based in Tokyo and Seoul ) stated:
“I see this as a social experiment related to crypto. Its results need time to observe.”
