Timothy Stebbing, the head of product at the Dogecoin Foundation, stated that the “meme lord” will have new developments in the future. In a post on X, Stebbing suggested that the era of Dogecoin (DOGE) layer 2 is approaching. Stebbing noted that: “L2 will provide smart contracts, new payment mechanisms, identification systems, real asset tokenization… an entire ecosystem, a new financial system will be born here.” Stebbing emphasized that the L2 chains on the Dogecoin network work together and accept competition through open protocols. “Build open protocols, collaborate, and be welcoming… then innovate and win through differentiation, standing out from the crowd thanks to capability, but uplift others,” Stebbings concluded. Impact on the Dogecoin network The rapid development of the Ethereum network (ETH) is significantly influenced by the layer 2 network led by Base and Arbitrum. The introduction of a layer 2 chain on the Dogecoin network will be a major turning point for dog-themed memecoins. Furthermore, institutional investors will easily tokenize real assets led by stablecoins, which will significantly improve the liquidity and utility of memecoins. The introduction of an L2 chain on the Dogecoin network could impact the transition to proof of stake (PoS) from the current proof of work (PoW) consensus method. Moreover, the core developers of Ether have demonstrated that PoS is more cost-effective and still secure for optimizing large-scale DeFi developments.
