Labor disruptions would result in the closure of all major ports on the East Coast and Gulf Coast of the United States. Data compiled by the American Association of Port Authorities shows that these ports handle about half of the total container volume in the United States. However, the question of whether employers will be allowed to increase semi-automated machines at port terminals in the next labor contract may be difficult to resolve.
