Potential successor of the Federal Reserve Chairman: The President can complain like an ordinary person, but it won't affect the independence of the Federal Reserve.

Former US President Trump hopes the White House has a say on the Interest Rate, a Federal Reserve Board member who is considered a possible successor to Chair Powell is quite dismissive of the idea. Earlier in September, Federal Reserve Board member Christopher Waller was asked about Trump's view, and he pointed out that Congress and the financial markets strongly support the Fed's autonomy in setting the Interest Rate. "If the President wants to complain about it, he can do so just like everyone else," Waller said. "He has the right to express those damn opinions, but that doesn't mean I have to listen or adjust the policy."
