The United Nations General Assembly adopted the first draft resolution on artificial intelligence

On March 21, local time, the United Nations General Assembly voted to adopt the first draft resolution on artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure that this new technology can benefit all countries, respect human rights, and is a "safe, reliable and trustworthy" technology. It is understood that this draft resolution aims to bridge the digital divide between developed and developing countries, ensure that they are on an equal footing in the AI discussion, and also aim to ensure that developing countries have the technology and capacity to use AI. The draft resolution acknowledges the acceleration of the development and use of AI and stresses "the urgent need for a global consensus on safe, secure and trustworthy AI systems". The resolution also acknowledges that "the governance of AI systems is an evolving area" and that further discussion of possible governance approaches is needed. It has been learned that the United States is the sponsor of the draft resolution, and China is a co-sponsor.
