I have been observing Elon Musk's relationship with cryptocurrencies, and it's quite fascinating how this billionaire has shaped the crypto market with his moves. The guy who runs Tesla and SpaceX not only owns digital assets, but his tweets can move entire markets, which is why he's called "The Dogefather."
Let's start with Bitcoin. Back in 2021, when Tesla announced that $1.5 billion investment in BTC, Musk became a public advocate for the cryptocurrency. Although Tesla later sold most of its holdings, Musk confirmed that he personally still owns Bitcoin. Makes sense, right? Bitcoin is practically the digital gold of the crypto market, with an unrivaled market dominance. To him, it represents a serious store of value.
Then there's Ethereum, which is interesting because he revealed his holdings during "The ₿ Word" in 2021. The ability of this blockchain to execute smart contracts makes it the infrastructure for DeFi, NFTs, and innovative applications. Musk sees it as a key player in the space.
But if there's one thing that defines Musk's relationship with cryptocurrencies, it's his obsession with Dogecoin. He doesn't hide it. He has called DOGE "the people's cryptocurrency" and has promoted its use in Tesla and SpaceX. What catches my attention is that although it started as a meme, Musk believes in its potential as a real means of payment, considering its low fees and active community. Currently, DOGE is around $0.09.
Now, there's a lot of speculation about other coins. With Shiba Inu, although Musk denies owning SHIB, his tweets about "Floki" and other dog-themed tokens have caused significant market movements. And Floki Inu, named after Musk's Shiba Inu dog, has gained attention although there's no confirmation that he owns it.
What's interesting is that every time Musk touches on the topic of cryptocurrencies, the market reacts. This demonstrates the power he has in the crypto space and why many follow his moves so closely.
