Just realized a lot of people are struggling with updating their SASSA details, so thought I'd share what actually works. The process is pretty different depending on which grant you're on, so don't mix them up or you'll waste time. For the permanent grants (old age, disability, child support), you literally cannot do anything online no matter how much you want to. You have to go in person to your local SASSA office, fill out the Payment Method Change Form, and bring your original ID plus proof of your new bank account. They need a stamped bank statement from the last three months or a letter from the bank, and here's the thing - the account has to be only in your name, no joint accounts. Takes up to 21 working days for them to verify it with the bank, and if you submit after the 15th of the month, you won't see the change until the next payment cycle. Changing bank details online is actually possible if you're on the SRD grant though. You go to their portal, enter your ID number, they send you a link via SMS, and you update your banking information from there. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for verification. For your cellphone number on SRD, you can use their contact details page - enter your ID and application number, add your new number, they'll send you an OTP to confirm. Way smoother than the permanent grants. One heads up - there are fake websites out there pretending to help with this stuff, so always make sure you're on the official SASSA portal. If the online route isn't working for you, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office in person. That's usually the safest move anyway, even though it might take longer. Honestly, the SRD process with online banking updates is so much simpler than dealing with the permanent grants, but both require you to be careful about account verification.
