US SEC Chair: Legal Interpretation of Crypto Assets "Just the Beginning, Not the End"
Mars Finance News, March 20 — According to Cointelegraph, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Paul Atkins stated in a pre-prepared speech at the Institute for Legal Practice Research on Thursday that the SEC will adopt a different approach from the traditional “enforcement-led regulation” in the digital asset space. After signing a memorandum of understanding with the CFTC, the SEC will first focus on clarifying the application of federal securities laws to cryptocurrencies. “While this interpretation provides the long-needed clarity, I also want to assure everyone that this is just the beginning, not the end.” Previously, reports indicated that the SEC and CFTC jointly issued new regulatory guidelines, explicitly stating that most digital assets are not securities, aiming to provide a clearer regulatory framework for the market.
