On December 26, renowned on-chain detective ZachXBT exposed a sophisticated scam attempt on X. A user claiming to be a victim of the recent Trust Wallet hack turned out to be a scammer exploiting the security crisis for illicit gains. The discovery highlights the risks users face when security incidents attract public attention.

The account showed multiple red flags revealing its fraudulent nature. ZachXBT documented that the profile changed its username 44 times, a typical behavior of coordinated scam operations. With only 234 posts since its creation in 2023, the account lacked natural activity history. Even more concerning, it actively participated in numerous memecoin scams, falsely claiming to be a “victim” to attract unwary investors.

On-chain security investigators identified another suspicious pattern: the account had previously blocked ZachXBT, preventing the detective from monitoring its activity. This defensive maneuver is characteristic of sophisticated impersonators who anticipate exposure. The case illustrates how scammers exploit technological tragedies like the Trust Wallet hack to weave false narratives. The crypto community must stay vigilant and verify victim claims through reliable sources before interacting with accounts requesting assistance or access to funds.
