U.S. stock markets opened on March 9th with all three major indices opening sharply lower. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 1%, the S&P 500 Index declined by 0.87%, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped by 0.86%. The technology sector continued to be under pressure, with chip stocks performing relatively weakly. Intel declined by 1.7%, and AMD fell by 1.6%.
