Technology services provider SLB (SLB) has landed a significant contract with Kuwait Oil Company to advance the development of the Mutriba field. The comprehensive agreement, valued at $1.5 billion and spanning five years, encompasses design, development planning, and production management operations across the challenging field.

This substantial investment from Kuwait reflects the company’s confidence in SLB’s capabilities to navigate complex operational environments. The arrangement represents an expansion of SLB’s responsibilities on the project, building on years of subsurface technical expertise and operational knowledge accumulated in Kuwait’s oil sector.

Expanding Scope in Complex Reservoir Operations

The updated contract covers operations in high-pressure, high-temperature reservoirs marked by sour conditions—technically demanding environments that require specialized expertise. SLB will assume end-to-end operational responsibility, managing execution across these intricate reservoir settings to ensure both safety and reliability throughout the development phases.

This expanded mandate underscores the technical complexity involved in bringing the Mutriba field to full production capacity and highlights why Kuwait Oil Company selected SLB to lead these critical operations.

Deepening Partnership Through Continued Investment

The award demonstrates the depth of the long-standing relationship between SLB and Kuwait Oil Company, a partnership built over multiple decades. “This award reflects the strength of our long-standing partnership with Kuwait Oil Company and the trust built over decades of working together,” noted Steve Gassen, executive vice president of Geographies at SLB. “As development of the Mutriba field moves into its next stage, we are taking on end-to-end responsibility to support safe, reliable execution in complex reservoir conditions.”

The five-year contract represents a tangible commitment from both organizations to advance Kuwait’s hydrocarbon development strategy. As the Mutriba field enters this next critical phase, SLB’s role has evolved from a support function to a comprehensive operational partner managing multiple aspects of field development.
