Bitcoin, gold, and silver rose during early Asian trading as the US dollar sharply weakened following statements by Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, which once again raised concerns about political pressure on the central bank.
The Department of Justice of the Federal Reserve, along with threats of potential criminal charges, was perceived by markets as retaliatory measures for the Fed's refusal to align its policies with President Donald Trump's preferences regarding interest rates.
Historically, even the perception of political interference has been enough to prompt investors to shift to alternative savings means. This dynamic was evident in the overnight strength of gold and silver, which continued their positive momentum as investors sought hedges against institutional and political risks.
Bitcoin initially joined the movement, signaling a renewed attempt by some market participants to present this asset as a hedge against risks from the government system or management. However, the rally quickly fizzled out. BTC failed to establish sustained growth above the $92,000 level, and the lack of continuation highlighted structural barriers that Bitcoin has faced since mid-October.
In derivatives markets, traders began reducing their long-term bullish exposure. Recent activity included partial reductions in January and February 2026 call options at levels of $98,000 and $100,000, as well as rolling some January calls at $100,000 into March contracts with a higher strike of $125,000. This shift suggests that expectations are being pushed into the future rather than being completely abandoned.
