**Precision Navigation Technology Scales Across Industries: Point One Navigation Raises $35M in Series C Funding**

Point One Navigation, the San Francisco-based positioning technology specialist, has successfully closed a $35 million Series C funding round led by Khosla Ventures. The investment values the company at $230 million, marking a significant milestone for the startup that's been building ultra-precise location solutions since 2016.

**From Centimeter-Level Accuracy to Real-World Impact**

What makes Point One's technology compelling isn't just the funding—it's the precision. Their positioning engine can pinpoint location to within one centimeter under optimal conditions, according to co-founder Aaron Nathan. This level of accuracy stems from integrating an enhanced global navigation satellite system (GNSS), computer vision, and sensor fusion through a single API.

Most modern vehicles—particularly electric and luxury cars—already contain the required hardware, so Point One delivers its solution primarily as software. For equipment lacking built-in sensors, like agricultural machinery or emergency response vehicles, the company provides a dedicated chipset. The distinction matters because it keeps deployment costs manageable across different vehicle categories.

**Expanding Beyond Automotive Into New Verticals**

Initially, Point One focused on autonomous vehicles and driver assistance systems. The company powers advanced infotainment and driver assistance technology for an electric vehicle manufacturer, with deployment in over 150,000 vehicles already on the road. But market expansion tells a more interesting story.

Around 2021, following its $10 million Series A, Point One began penetrating adjacent markets. The shift worked. In the past year alone, the number of manufacturers adopting Point One's platform grew tenfold, now spanning automotive, robotics, industrial applications, and wearables.

The company has landed customers in multiple sectors: leading lawnmower and turf care manufacturers, a distribution network operating 300,000 last-mile delivery vehicles, and a global motorcycle producer. Each use case demands precision. "If you're off by 10 centimeters in lawn mowing, you end up in someone's flower bed," COO Tom Weeks told TechCrunch. "That's why industries are pushing for one to three centimeter accuracy."

**The Infrastructure Bet: Building the RTK Network**

Supporting this precision requires infrastructure. Point One spent eight years developing its Polaris RTK Network—a collection of compact correction stations deployed at secure locations like cell tower sites across North America, Europe, and Asia. These units, roughly the size of a lunchbox, broadcast location corrections to devices within a 40-kilometer radius.

Scaling nationwide requires density. Weeks highlighted why coverage matters: "From Midwest farming regions to the East Coast, there's dense population, agricultural activity, vehicles, and significant freight movement. We're working to complete network coverage and are close." The newly raised capital will accelerate this expansion.

**Indoor Navigation: The Next Frontier**

Current technology maintains precision when vehicles transition from outdoor to indoor parking structures. Nathan sees broader potential: extending centimeter-level accuracy into industrial environments where robots operate exclusively indoors—factories, warehouses, and distribution centers.

"Our next step—which this funding enables—is seamless long-term indoor navigation," Nathan said. "The company's evolution aims toward providing location tracking everywhere, both indoors and across all sectors."

The combination of expanded RTK coverage and indoor capability positioning suggests Point One Navigation is building infrastructure that could underpin the next generation of autonomous systems across multiple industries.
