When it comes to the evolution of Web3 infrastructure, data storage and data availability are becoming increasingly important. Strangely, many public blockchains focus on stacking high TPS and low Gas fees but ignore the long-term security and verifiability of underlying data. This issue has recently led me to focus on projects that seriously work on the data layer.

Take data protocols, for example—they are not simply about crude "decentralized storage." The projects that truly put effort into this are thinking about—how to find a balance between scalability, security, and cost efficiency. Efficient data sharding combined with redundancy mechanisms can protect data integrity while significantly reducing storage costs. This is a necessity for Rollup scaling, on-chain gaming, NFT ecosystems, AI data processing, and Web3 social applications.

From an ecosystem perspective, the positioning of these protocols is quite clear—they do not compete directly with public chains but serve as underlying modules to empower more applications and networks. Such "infrastructure-type" projects are often underestimated in the early stages, but once the ecosystem adopts them, the speed of value realization can be astonishing. The related tokens' functions in the network are not limited to transaction mediums; they are often tied to node incentives, network security, and resource allocation, which means their long-term value is more driven by actual usage rather than short-term speculation.

As the market gradually cools down, I am increasingly inclined to focus on researching these foundational infrastructure projects that genuinely address Web3's pain points. These are the things worth spending time on.

Yeah, no doubt, but these infrastructure projects are always overlooked. There are really few people who seriously look at the data layer; everyone is focused on TPS. I agree, now is actually the time to settle down and study. Infrastructure is long-term; everything else is superficial. This cold market is actually a good opportunity to filter projects. It seems most people haven't realized how important data usability is. However, the valuations for these types of projects will indeed rise sharply.

This is exactly what I've been saying: public chains chasing TPS is like putting on airs without thinking about how to store data properly. Wait, do people really use these data layer projects? Or are they just a bunch of concepts? Infrastructure projects are indeed easy to be overlooked, but honestly, how do we determine which ones will truly succeed in the early stages? I think this approach isn't wrong; I'm just worried it might lead to another round of collective storytelling.

hypothesis: most chains are literally just speedrunning toward tps numbers while building on quicksand... data layer projects are the actual unglamorous infrastructure that'll matter in 5 years tbh

To be honest, most public chains are just a numbers game, and few really care about the data layer. Infrastructure is indeed easy to overlook, but once you start using it, it's a completely different story. Is data protocols such a trivial thing? I don't think so; in the long run, they have great potential. Early infrastructure projects were like this—no one cared, and then they took off incredibly fast. It seems everyone is chasing the hot trend, but few truly understand these underlying technologies. Not competing with public chains can actually be an advantage; having a clear positioning makes you a winner. Tokens should be tied to real applications to have long-term value. If you're still gambling on short-term gains, you need to wake up.
