Modern Motors, a joint venture between Hyundai and Aptiv, has rebooted its autonomous taxi program with a strategy led by artificial intelligence, aiming to launch commercial driverless services in Las Vegas by the end of 2026. After suspending operations and undergoing significant restructuring, the company is shifting from traditional robotics technology to an end-to-end AI infrastructure model. This new architecture is designed to improve system versatility in new cities and reduce costs. Motional has launched an employee-only autonomous taxi service with a safety driver onboard. The company plans to partner with a ride-hailing service later this year to roll out the service, with the goal of achieving fully driverless operations by the end of the year.
