Whether a project can go far often depends on its token model. Today I want to talk about the $WAL design of the Walrus protocol. To be honest, the details are quite meticulous.

Let's first look at the distribution logic. Over 35% of the total supply is directly allocated to community and ecosystem development, which is indeed among the top in similar projects. What's more interesting is the deflationary design—the protocol repeatedly uses a portion of its revenue to buy back and burn $WAL. This not only creates scarcity but also allows token holders to share in the growth cake. It's somewhat similar to a company's stock buyback strategy, but executed transparently on-chain.

The staking mechanism is very flexible. The tiered system caters to different risk preferences, with annual yields ranging from 5% to 25%, giving users the option to choose based on their own ideas. This is clearly better than a one-size-fits-all single yield rate.

The most critical aspect is governance rights. Token holders can vote on major protocol events—adjusting parameters, launching new features, selecting partners. This is not just a formal democratic process; all on-chain records are fully transparent, and anyone can verify. Currently, the community has approved several important proposals, and this operational approach indeed enhances participation.

However, no matter how elegant the token model is, it ultimately depends on practical application and ecosystem development. Walrus's future performance in these areas will be the real test.

35% of the community share is indeed comfortable, unlike some projects that hoard all the tokens.

Buyback and burn schemes are common, but the key is to have real revenue to support it; otherwise, it's just a game of hot potato.

35% community allocation sounds good, but it feels like empty talk... How many of these can actually be implemented? Look at those buybacks and burns; they only count once they are actually executed. For now, it's still in the planning stage.

okay so 35% to community sounds nice on paper but like... we all know how these governance things play out lmao. half the voters probably won't even read the proposals, ngl

Buyback and burn is indeed more conscientious than most projects, but I'm just worried it might be just talk. Let's wait until the ecosystem truly develops before making any judgments.

35% community allocation sounds good, but can the actual ecosystem development keep up? It still seems to depend on whether it can truly be implemented later on.

35% community allocation seems pretty good, but the key is whether those coins can actually be used... Burning and destroying coins is quite old-fashioned; when will we see actual returns?

That said, the token model looks good, but I'm still a bit worried... Can this deflationary logic hold up in a bear market?

35% community allocation + buyback and burn + tiered staking, this combination indeed has some substance, but ultimately it depends on whether the ecosystem development can keep up. A fancy model alone is useless.

35% community allocation looks good, but what I care about most is whether the validation nodes can maintain stable performance. The deflationary design is clever, but node operation efficiency is what truly determines success or failure.
