Odaily Planet Daily reports that Vitalik Buterin stated that ZK-EVM has now entered the alpha stage, achieving production-level performance. The remaining work mainly focuses on security; at the same time, PeerDAS has officially launched on the Ethereum mainnet. Vitalik pointed out that this is not a gradual optimization but transforming Ethereum into a new type of P2P network capable of decentralization, consensus mechanisms, and high bandwidth simultaneously. He emphasized that BitTorrent has high bandwidth but lacks consensus, Bitcoin has consensus but is limited by bandwidth due to full node replication; meanwhile, after introducing PeerDAS(, a usable data model) and ZK-EVM, Ethereum hopes to achieve decentralization, consensus, and high throughput simultaneously. These three challenges have been addressed through “code running on the mainnet.” PeerDAS is already operational on the mainnet, and ZK-EVM has achieved production-level performance. Vitalik predicts that from 2026, along with mechanisms like BAL, ePBS, and increasing Gas limits, there will be practical opportunities to operate ZK-EVM nodes; between 2026 and 2028, Gas will be revalued, the state structure adjusted, and execution load moved into blobs; by 2027–2030, ZK-EVM aims to become the primary method for verifying network blocks, further increasing Gas limits. Additionally, he mentioned the importance of building a decentralized block structure, with a long-term goal to prevent blocks from being fully constructed at any single location, and to distribute block-building rights through methods inside or outside the protocol, reducing risks of centralized intervention and enhancing regional fairness.
