GCT Semiconductor, a chip manufacturer, announced a significant milestone — their 5G chipset samples have been delivered to key customers such as Airspan Networks and Orbic North America, entering the actual evaluation phase. According to the plan, more chip and module samples will continue to be shipped in the coming weeks, with initial supply to all major customers expected to be completed by the end of June.

A Critical Step from Chips to Applications

This delivery includes both bare chips and modules, fully customized according to the specific needs of different customers. GCT Semiconductor CEO John Schlaefer stated that they have achieved an important milestone. The current focus is to have these 5G solutions undergo customer evaluation and optimization, then determine subsequent mass production plans based on feedback.

Targeting the Mid-End Market and 5G Opportunities

GCT Semiconductor’s strategy is clear: first focus on mid-end applications to seize immediate opportunities in the 5G market. They plan to develop a module certified by Verizon, which will serve as a gateway into the North American carrier ecosystem. Meanwhile, they are also preparing plans to expand sample supply to more customers.

Dual Assurance of Technology and Supply Chain

GCT Semiconductor has many years of experience in the 4G LTE field. Their system-on-chip solutions integrate RF, baseband modulation/demodulation, and digital signal processing functions. This fabless company’s 5G and 4G solutions are characterized by small size, low power consumption, high performance, and high reliability, and have been applied in CPE, mobile hotspots, routers, M2M devices, and smartphones. They claim to have a proven supply chain system that can deliver high-performance solutions stably and efficiently.

Next Steps After Customer Evaluation

After customer evaluation, GCT Semiconductor will work with partners to optimize device performance and assess mass production needs. All of this is built on their full production capacity — they believe they are fully capable of handling market orders.

From initial delivery to commercial deployment, GCT Semiconductor is advancing its 5G chip product line from the sample stage toward commercialization, which is also a positive signal for the entire 5G industry chain.
