Chris Ayers Takes Helm at Arconic: 25+ Years of Metals Industry Leadership Drive Strategic Shift

Arconic Corporation has appointed Chris Ayers as its new Chief Executive Officer and Board Chairman, effective September 11, 2023, marking a significant transition for the Pittsburgh-headquartered aluminum solutions provider. The move represents a strategic recalibration, bringing deep institutional knowledge and decades of aerospace-focused operational experience to the forefront.

From Board Director to Chief Executive

Ayers’ ascension comes after seven years of active involvement with Arconic’s Board of Directors. His extensive background spans multiple leadership roles across the aluminum and metals sector, with a particular specialization in aerospace applications. Prior to his board tenure, Ayers served as President and Chief Executive Officer at WireCo WorldGroup, Inc. (2013-2017), where he drove operational excellence in industrial wire solutions.

His career trajectory includes significant responsibilities at Alcoa, where he assumed the Chief Operating Officer position for the Cast, Forged and Extruded Products division in 2010 and subsequently rose to Executive Vice President. From 2011 to 2013, he led Alcoa’s Global Primary Products Group. This accumulated experience positions him well to navigate Arconic’s complex market dynamics across aerospace, ground transportation, building construction, and industrial sectors.

Continuity and Confidence

Outgoing CEO Tim Myers—who led Arconic through its separation from Alcoa and establishment as an independent public company in 2020—will remain engaged as Lead Outside Director on the Board in an advisory capacity. Myers emphasized confidence in the transition, stating: “I could not be prouder of what the Arconic team has accomplished, and it has been a privilege and an honor to lead this great Company. I’m extremely excited about the energy and leadership Chris brings to the role.”

Ayers, reflecting on his institutional connection to the organization, acknowledged: “Having been actively involved in this Company both as a board member and in leading operations previously, I have witnessed the remarkable agility Arconic possesses. Industry Recognition and Early Career Foundation

Ayers began his professional journey at Pratt & Whitney, the aerospace division of United Technologies Corporation, establishing his foundational expertise in the aviation sector. He later held multiple executive positions at Precision Castparts Corporation (PCC) between 1999 and 2008, further solidifying his metals manufacturing credentials. His board service extends beyond Arconic to include Universal Stainless and Alloy Products, Inc.
