Here's a question that's been sparking debate in the crypto community: Do token buybacks actually create net value, or are they just a way to artificially prop up prices?

Four respected voices recently went head-to-head on this exact issue. On one side, the argument that buybacks are fundamentally a negative—redistributing wealth without generating real economic activity. On the other side, defenders who see them as legitimate mechanisms for returning capital to holders and reducing token supply.

The tension is real. Some argue buybacks are just financial engineering that masks underlying weakness. Others counter that reducing circulating supply can genuinely strengthen long-term value accrual for token holders.

Beyond the rhetoric, the mechanics matter: How do buybacks affect incentive structures? What's the difference between buybacks and actual value creation through revenue or protocol innovation? And does it even matter if holders win either way?

The crypto space keeps pushing these conversations forward. Whether you see buybacks as a feature or a bug probably says a lot about how you think about tokenomics more broadly.

In other words, it's just exchanging air for air. Reducing circulation volume sounds impressive, but without real cash income backing it up, it will eventually be paid back.

Buyback is just a smoke screen to hide poor fundamentals; the real value should come from the protocol itself...

Buyback is simply a new trick to cut leek, the real value lies in the protocol itself, not these number games. Reducing supply can increase prices? Then why not just destroy half of them directly, since it's all digital magic.

In plain terms, it's a numbers game—reducing supply artificially boosts token prices, but what is the true value? None.
