ZKsync has just dropped a major bombshell—the veteran ZKsync Lite (the original 1.0 version launched back in 2020) will officially retire in 2026.

Don’t panic—this shutdown only affects the Lite network and won’t impact the normal operation of other ZKsync systems. The official team says they’ll announce a detailed timeline sometime next year, along with a comprehensive migration guide.

As an early explorer in the Layer2 space, Lite has fulfilled its historical mission. However, there are still about $50 million in assets left on this network. The good news is that the withdrawal channel will remain open, so users can move their funds at any time.

This kind of move is actually quite common—it's just a technical upgrade, with the old version stepping aside to make way for the new architecture. If you hold assets on Lite, make sure to follow official updates so you don’t miss the migration window.

Oh no, another migration? I still have some assets sitting in my Lite account. --- Lite is bowing out gracefully, sounds nice, but I wonder if this migration will be another mess. --- There's still $50 million lying there, is that for real? Why is no one in a hurry to withdraw? --- I understand tech upgrades, but why is it always so rushed? And now we have to wait until next year for the exact timeline. --- Wait, if the withdrawal channel is still open, why are there still so many assets left untouched? --- Lite shutting down isn’t news, the real question is whether we’ll get hit with another round of fees. --- Time to move to Era, everyone. Lite’s done for, it’s a new era now. --- I don’t really trust the official migration guide, I’d rather check the forums myself and figure things out first. --- 2026 sounds far away, but we always end up putting things off until the last minute.

Another old project is saying goodbye. Is Lite’s retirement a step forward or just another kind of abandonment? Wait, there are still 50 million in there? How fast do you have to run? Why does the ZK ecosystem always seem to be tinkering? Can’t they get it right the first time? Saying Lite has fulfilled its mission sounds nice, but in reality, it’s probably just technical debt piling up too much. I hate hearing about “windows of opportunity.” It always feels like I’m going to miss out.

Haha, it's that time of the year again for the annual on-chain migration. It's finally time for Lite to retire.

Comments from bear market bottom fishers: There's still $50 million lying around, how lazy do you have to be to forget to withdraw that? Lite is really ancient now, should have been retired a long time ago. Wait, will there be any gas fee traps during migration? Will it end up being a loss? Makes sense, tech upgrades are normal—just worried if those users will move to other L2s. 2026 is still two years away, no rush, the withdrawal channel will stay open anyway. Lite did make contributions back in the day, but now the ZK ecosystem has really taken off, so its mission is truly complete. The timing is arranged well, doesn't have that abrupt shutdown feeling.
