Chicago Options Exchange’s cryptocurrency divisionCboe Digitalplans to launch a new Bitcoin (BTC) futures product by the end of this month, pending regulatory approval.
Cboe, in partnership with FTSE Russell, will offer this new futures instrument, which will be cash-collateralized and will trade based on the XBTFIndex, representing 1/10th of the value of the FTSE Bitcoin Index. The product will settle on the last business day of each month. Cboe announced that, subject to regulatory approval, the futures will begin trading on April 28.
Catherine Clay, the global head of derivatives at Cboe, stated, “This launch comes at a critical time when demand for cryptocurrencies is increasing and market participants are seeking more efficient and flexible tools to meet this demand”.
Cboe became the first regulated exchange to offer Bitcoin and Ether (ETH) futures on a single platform, receiving approval from US regulators in November 2023.
