Here’s Why Altcoins Could Pump Soon
If you have been eyeing the crypto market lately, you might have noticed Bitcoin stealing the show while altcoins (other cryptocurrencies like Ethereum, Solana, or even niche ones like ONDO) have been hanging back. However, things could be about to flip. There are signs that altcoins are gearing up for a major comeback
Altcoin Dominance Eyes 7% Breakout
Altcoin Dominance is basically a measure of how much of the total crypto market value belongs to altcoins versus Bitcoin. When it’s high, altcoins are ruling the roost, but when low, Bitcoin is the boss.
The attached chart from TradingView plots this dominance over the past decade, from 2015 to now in 2025, with percentages on the right side dropping from highs around 30% down to lows near 10%.

Altcoin Dominance chart by TradingviewLooking closely, the chart shows clear patterns. It starts relatively flat and low in 2015, then spikes sharply in 2017-2018. That is when altcoins boomed during the ICO craze
After a dip, it climbed again around 2021 with the NFT and DeFi hype. But since then, it’s been on a red downward trend line, sliding to about 7.86% today. See those green curves at the bottom highlight historical troughs where dominance hit rock bottom before bouncing back hard.
Right now, we’re at one of those green-bottom spots, with a little upward arrow suggesting a reversal. Historically, these lows have preceded “alt seasons,” where altcoins surge 5x, 10x, or more as money flows out of Bitcoin into riskier plays.

Fresh developments are fueling the fire. Just today, September 4, FOX Business reporter Eleanor Terrett shared on X that the SEC’s Spring Agenda is putting crypto “front and center.”
We’re talking rules on trading, custody, and “safe harbor” for token issuers, which could mean clearer regulations that may make it easier for big players to jump in without fear of lawsuits. Terrett called it “a new day,” and the crypto community agrees.
Adding to the bullish sentiment, Ondo Finance went live with global markets yesterday. Ondo tokenizes real-world assets like bonds and stocks on the blockchain, and this move means institutions such as hedge funds and banks are dipping their toes into altcoins. It’s a sign that traditional finance is warming up to alts, potentially pouring billions in.
Final Thoughts
Put it together, the Altcoin Dominance chart suggests the bottom is in, regulations are easing, and big money’s arriving. If history repeats, altcoins could dominate again, turning small investments into big wins.
