DeepTide TechFlow News: On January 6th, according to Golden Ten Data, due to newly added image editing features being used by users to generate pornographic content, the chatbot “Grok (Grok)” from xAI, an artificial intelligence enterprise under American entrepreneur Elon Musk, has recently sparked controversy again. This chaos subsequently provoked public outrage. Thomas Rennier, spokesperson for the European Commission responsible for digital economy affairs, responded on the 5th saying that they are “seriously investigating” complaints against “Grok”. “‘Grok’ introduced so-called ‘spicy mode’, not only displaying explicit sexual content, but some generated content also features child characteristics. This is not ‘spicy content’ at all, but illegal behavior that is shocking. This has no place in Europe.” On the same day, the UK’s cybersecurity regulator Communications Authority stated that they have noted user concerns about the aforementioned feature and “have urgently contacted X (platform) and xAI to understand what specific measures they have taken in fulfilling their statutory obligations to protect UK users”, after which they will determine based on the responses whether there are “potential compliance issues worth investigating”.
