There can only be one Iron Man! Robert Downey Jr. refuses AI clones and warns: Whoever uses me will be sued.
Official Statement: AI self-replication is strictly prohibited
Hollywood superstar Robert Downey Jr. recently made strong remarks on the podcast "On With Kara Swisher," clearly stating that he is unwilling to allow Hollywood to use artificial intelligence (AI) technology to create his digital replicas. He warned, "I intend to sue all future top executives who approve the creation of my digital replicas." Downey does not want his image to be manipulated through AI technology or DeepFake on the screen.
In the program, the host mentioned the role of Iron Man he played in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Downey said that he is not worried about the current Marvel team because they respect his character and image. He said, 'Back to the MCU, I'm not worried about them hijacking my character's soul, because the decision-makers there wouldn't do that, with or without me.' However, he expressed concern about the future possible successors and emphasized taking legal action to protect his rights.

Criticism of AI industry giants, questioning ethical responsibilities
In addition to his work in film, Downey is currently involved in the Broadway play 'McNeal', which explores the corporate giants in the AI industry, including Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI. Downey criticized these tech leaders in an interview with host Kara Swisher.
He said, "I don't envy those who are overly exposed in this new stage of the information age. They think that because they have huge new companies, everything belongs to them, which is wrong."
Danny further pointed out: 'The problem is that when these people consider themselves as arbitrators of all this and at the same time hope to be viewed in a favorable light, this is a huge mistake. This makes me feel disgusted and reluctant to interact with them because they are not sincere.' He emphasized that technological development should be accompanied by moral responsibility, not just the pursuit of personal gain.
Uphold role autonomy and disallow digital substitution
Regarding the possibility of being replicated by AI in the future, Downey expressed his position. He hopes to maintain control over his image and roles, and does not allow unauthorized digital reconstruction. When the host mentioned that future executives may not respect his wishes as they do now,
Danny responded, "You are right. I hereby declare that I intend to sue all future senior executives, even if only in the planning stage."
Although Downey is cautious about using AI in movies, he has also invested in AI companies. He explained that for him, it is more important whether the people involved have ethical values. He said, "Ultimately, it's not just a technical or money-making opportunity, it's 'who are the people involved? Do I think they have ethical values?'" Downey's remarks reflect his emphasis on his own image rights and his cautious attitude towards the application of AI technology in the entertainment industry.
At this year's San Diego International Comic Con, Marvel surprised everyone by announcing that Downey will return to the MCU and join the cast of the fifth Avengers movie, Avengers: Doomsday (working title), playing the villain Doctor Doom. This character will replace Kang the Conqueror as the main villain of the sixth phase of the MCU, instead of appearing in the film as an Iron Man from a parallel universe.
