President Trump is trying to reduce the attention on his large-scale efforts to deport illegal immigrants and has directed senior advisors to adopt new strategies regarding one of his core campaign promises. Sources familiar with the matter say that during conversations with senior advisors and his wife Melania, Trump believed that some of his administration’s deportation policies were too aggressive, and that voters did not accept the idea of “mass deportations.” He expressed a desire to focus more on arresting “criminals” and to reduce chaos in American cities. The sources also indicated that part of the reason for pushing this immigration policy adjustment came from White House Chief of Staff Sussy Wills. She believes that on the eve of the midterm elections, the president’s immigration team has turned this symbolic issue into a more controversial challenge. To this end, the government is not only trying to change how the issue is presented externally but also will adjust enforcement measures on the ground. ( Sina Finance )
