According to the Guangdong Provincial Department of Transportation, during the Qingming holiday in 2026 (April 4 to 6, a total of 3 days), a policy will be implemented to exempt small passenger cars with seven seats or fewer from tolls. It is expected that highway traffic will stabilize during this year’s Qingming holiday, mainly consisting of short- and medium-distance trips such as memorial visits and spring outings. The overall travel volume across the province will significantly increase, with traffic pressure mainly concentrated in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, where small passenger cars account for a higher proportion. It is projected that the average daily traffic volume during this year’s Qingming holiday will be about 9.53 million vehicles, an increase of approximately 12.75% year-on-year. Among them, the daily average traffic volume on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is about 27k vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 13.71%; the Humen Bridge sees an average of about 136.4k vehicles daily, a decrease of 1.45% year-on-year; the Nansha Bridge has an average of about 184.8k vehicles daily, a 5.54% increase; the Huangpu Bridge averages about 189.8k vehicles daily, a 5.44% increase; and the Shenzhong Passage has an average of about 174.4k vehicles daily, a 4.71% increase. It is expected that travel demand will be concentrated on the day before the holiday (April 3), and the last day of the holiday (April 6) will see a peak in return trips. (CCTV News)
