Coal transportation is guaranteed; the Daqin Railway begins a 30-day intensive maintenance period.
Starting from April 1, “China’s First Heavy-Duty Line” — the Daqin Railway — has begun a 30-day spring intensive maintenance construction period, fully restoring the performance of line equipment under high-load operation for winter coal supply guarantee, and laying a solid safety foundation for peak-summer energy transport.
During the intensive maintenance period, from 9:00 to 12:00 every day, all trains on the Daqin Railway will be suspended across the whole line, for three-dimensional inspections and renewal upgrades of the line’s steel rails, sleepers, turnouts, ballast, as well as the power supply contact network, signal equipment, and communication fiber-optic cables. The construction plan includes segment-by-segment replacement of 264.6 kilometers of steel rails, segment-by-segment replacement of 92,000 sleepers, mechanized track-bed cleaning and screening for 184.1 kilometers, mechanized tamping and consolidation of 883.9 kilometers of track, mechanized tamping and consolidation of 436 sets of turnouts, mechanized grinding of 1,177 kilometers of track, and tasks such as bridge and tunnel maintenance, contact network rectification, and construction for signal specialty station renovations, comprehensively improving the quality of facilities and equipment.
To ensure the intensive maintenance is advanced with high quality and high efficiency, the China Railway Taiyuan Bureau invited construction forces from 10 railway bureaus—Harbin, Shenyang, Beijing, Wuhan, Jinan, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Guangzhou, Lanzhou, and Nanchang—bringing a total of 152 construction teams, with more than 20,000 construction personnel. At the same time, the construction campaign is equipped with 69 sets of large-scale work vehicles, 29 sets of road-use vehicle trains, 23 sets of small machinery totaling 208 units, 84 track vehicles, 210 flat wagons, and a large number of small track-maintenance machinery.
Given the characteristics of this intensive maintenance task—heavy workload, many machines, and high safety pressure—the China Railway Taiyuan Bureau has established a three-tier command system: a leadership group for centralized maintenance construction, a construction command headquarters and sub-bureaus (command branches), and a construction coordination group, so as to hold specialized construction meetings, preparatory meetings, summary meetings, roll-call meetings, and technical briefings of high quality. This enables vertical communication and coordinated linkage, comprehensively controlling construction safety and quality, promptly handling various prominent conflicts and interface (boundary) problems, and ensuring the intensive maintenance construction proceeds safely and in an orderly manner.
During the intensive maintenance period, the Qinhuangdao West Track Maintenance Section set up 3 flash welding teams and plans to complete 154 flash welds, creating the highest record for the number of flash welds in the year over past years. “Compared with traditional welding methods, flash welding provides higher welding strength and smoother joints, which can effectively improve the overall integrity and stability of the steel rails.” The deputy director of the comprehensive mechanical repair workshop of the section, Lu Yue, introduced that they will gradually eliminate aluminum thermite weld seams and frozen joints, laying a solid foundation for the long-term safe and stable operation of the line.
At the same time, to ensure that both construction and transportation are not delayed, the China Railway Taiyuan Bureau overall coordinates departments including transportation, dispatching, and motive power (locomotive) operations, optimizing transportation plans, further detailing transportation organization, strengthening the coordination and connection between locomotives and trains (locomotive operation matches), and organizing balanced transportation. It will ensure the coordinated advance of transportation and construction on the Daqin Railway and achieve a win-win outcome. The dispatching department will carefully organize the operation of freight trains, closely track the daily freight volume targets, and, through measures such as improving the quality of daily schedules, strengthening loading and unloading organization, and speeding up locomotive and rolling stock turnover, ensure that during the Daqin Railway intensive maintenance period the daily freight volume target of 1 million tons is completed.
