Trump says Iran conflict is "close to ending," crude oil once drops 4%
Mars Finance News: On April 15, Trump said that the Iran conflict is “close to ending,” and WTI crude oil briefly fell by 4% during Wednesday’s Asian trading session. He also said that a new round of U.S.-Iran negotiations “may resume within the next two days” in Pakistan.
According to Xinhua News Agency, U.S. President Trump said in an interview with American media on the 14th that the Iran conflict is “close to ending.” Trump was interviewed that day by reporters from the Fox News Channel. When a reporter asked why he had “been saying ‘the war is over,’” Trump replied: “I think (the Iran conflict) is close to ending. Yes, I mean, I think it’s very close to ending.”
The remarks gained traction at one point in early trading on Wednesday, leading WTI crude oil to drop by as much as 4% during the day. According to a report by Fox News, in the latest interview, when discussing how the situation between the U.S. and Iran might develop next, Trump said: “We’ll see what happens next. I think Iran currently is very eager to reach an agreement.”
Also, the New York Post reported that Trump said the negotiations may “resume in Pakistan within the next two days.” This would build on the basis of that long but inconclusive meeting held in Islamabad on Saturday night last week. Trump did not specify who would represent the United States in the potential second round of talks, but confirmed that he himself would not attend. Sources told CNN that if a new round of in-person talks can be arranged before the truce agreement expires next week, U.S. Vice President Vance is expected to lead the possible second round of U.S.-Iran talks. Vance said he will continue to work toward what he calls the “big deal” that Trump hopes to reach with Iran.
