Just realized I need to update my SASSA banking details before the deadline hits, and honestly it's a bit of a process depending on which grant you're on. If you're getting the permanent grants like old age or disability, you literally have to go to the SASSA office in person - can't do it online. They want you to bring your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement or letter from the bank), fill out their forms, and they'll send it to the bank for verification which takes forever, like 21 working days.
But here's the thing - if you're on the SRD grant, it's completely different. You can actually update your bank details online through their portal, which is way easier. You just enter your ID number, they send you a link via SMS, and you add your new account details. The whole thing is electronic, which makes sense because they process so many applications.
Also had to update my cellphone number recently because I switched networks. For SRD, you can do that through their contact portal too - enter your ID and Application ID, put in your new number, they send you an OTP to verify, and boom, done. For permanent grants though, you probably need to call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or just go to the office. One warning though - there are fake websites trying to scam people into updating their details, so always make sure you're on the official SASSA site. Not worth risking your grant over a phishing link. Anyone else dealing with this right now or is it just me?
