U.S. Vice President Vance publicly criticized European Union (EU) policies on the 7th while attending a rally in Budapest, Hungary’s capital, and said he supports Hungarian Prime Minister Orban’s re-election. That day, during an appearance at an event with Orban, Vance urged the Hungarian people to resist “European bureaucratism,” criticizing the EU leadership’s approach to issues of immigration, energy, and member states’ sovereignty. He praised Orban’s policies and encouraged Hungarian voters to take an active part in the congressional election, “support Orban.” At the rally, Vance also had a phone call with U.S. President Trump. During the call, Trump said Orban is a “remarkable person.” Hungary is scheduled to hold a congressional election on April 12. Orban, who has been in power since 2010, will seek re-election. Observers generally believe this is the most challenging election Orban has faced since taking office. ( Xinhua News Agency )
