Just realized a lot of people still don't know the proper way to update their SASSA grant details. If you're getting permanent grants like the old age or disability payments, you can't just do it online like everyone thinks - you actually have to go to your local SASSA office in person with your ID and bank statement (not older than 3 months). The bank account must be in your name only, no joint accounts allowed.

For the SRD appeal status check and if you need to change bank details on that R370 grant though, it's completely different. That one's all online through their portal - you just enter your SA ID number, they send you an SMS link, and you can update everything from there. Pretty straightforward honestly. Takes a few days to a week for the new bank details to actually process.

The cellphone number thing is crucial because that's how they verify you with OTP codes. Whether it's permanent grants or SRD, make sure you're using official SASSA channels only - there are sketchy websites out there pretending to be SASSA. Call 0800 60 10 11 if you're stuck, or just visit your nearest office. If you're trying to change bank details before the 15th of the month, you might catch it for the next payment cycle.
