Just realized a lot of people are confused about how to update their R350 banking details, so thought I'd share what I've learned. The process is actually different depending on which grant you're on, which catches people off guard.

If you're on a permanent grant like the old age or disability grant, you can't do this online unfortunately. You have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office and fill out the Payment Method Change Form in person. Bring your original SA ID, a copy of it, and proof of your new bank account (a bank statement not older than 3 months or a letter from your bank works). The thing is, SASSA won't pay into joint accounts or anything in someone else's name, so make sure the account is 100% in your name. After you submit it, the bank gets notified and verification takes up to 21 working days. Pro tip: get this done before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect the next month, otherwise you're waiting another cycle.

But here's the thing – if you're on the SRD R370 grant, it's way easier. The whole system is online, which makes sense since they process millions of applications remotely. You go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they send you a secure SMS link. Click that link, enter your new bank details, and you're done. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for verification. Same rule applies though – the account has to be in your name.

As for updating your cellphone number, it depends on your grant type again. For permanent grants, just call the SASSA helpline (0800 60 10 11) or visit an office and let them know. For SRD, there's a dedicated contact portal where you enter your ID, new number, and they send you an OTP to verify. Pretty straightforward.

One last thing – watch out for fake websites claiming they can change your details. Stick to the official SASSA channels only. I've heard stories of people losing access to their accounts because they used dodgy links. Not worth the risk.
