The attacker minted 1B $DOT and dumped it all in a single transaction for 108.2 $ETH($237K).
The exploit was on the Hyperbridge gateway contract, not Polkadot's core network. The attacker minted and sold 1B bridged $DOT tokens on Ethereum for ~$237K.
