A major figure in the cryptocurrency industry has taken action. Jed McCaleb is shifting a large amount of funds to a new project.

Jed McCaleb, co-founder of Ripple and Stellar, revealed that through his nonprofit organization, the Astera Institute, he is embarking on a highly ambitious AGI development project. The scale of this effort is considerable.

The cryptocurrency assets held by Jed McCaleb are worth approximately $3.9 billion. He has decided to allocate $1 billion of that to AGI development. Additionally, he plans to invest $600 million in neuroscience research. In total, he is concentrating $1.6 billion in a single direction.

What’s notable is Jed McCaleb’s approach to AGI. He is pursuing a path entirely different from mainstream AI development. He envisions a system based on the principles of the human brain, aiming to create an AGI that is, in a sense, "closer to the brain."

This decision is interesting in several ways. One is the market psychology reflected in where early crypto participants like Jed McCaleb are choosing to allocate their capital now. Another is how the industry perceives the decision to invest such a substantial amount in the long-term, uncertain field of AGI development.

Wealth generated from cryptocurrencies is flowing into AI and neuroscience research. Jed McCaleb’s choice may indicate a broader trend within the industry.
