Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA banking details, especially for the R350 SRD grant. Honestly, the process is way easier now than it used to be.
So here's the thing - if you're getting the permanent grants (old age, disability, child support), you gotta go to a SASSA office in person. Can't do it online. You need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months), and they'll give you a form to fill out. Takes up to 21 days to process after that. The deadline is usually before the 15th of the month if you want it to kick in the next payment cycle.
But for the R350 SRD grant? That's different. Everything is online through their portal, which is actually pretty convenient. You put in your ID number, they send an SMS link to verify it's really you, then you update your R350 bank details right there. Just make sure the account is in your name - they won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that.
Also don't forget about your phone number. If you changed your cell, update it too because that's how they send you verification codes and payment notifications. Use the official SASSA portal, not some random website claiming to help. There's a lot of scam sites out there.
If the online thing isn't working, just call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local office. Takes longer but honestly more reliable if you're having issues with the portal.
