The US dollar now accounts for about 46% of global reserves — the lowest in 26 years



Since 2017, the share has fallen by 15 percentage points. The last decline below 50% was in 1990–1991 amid inflation, recession, and a trust crisis.
At that time, the crisis was resolved through the dissolution of the USSR and victory in the Cold War.
