Caixin: “What surprised me most about the recent US-Iran conflict is that the financial markets have remained relatively calm over the past few weeks,” said Pascal Lamy, former Director-General of the WTO.

During the “2026 Development High-Level Forum,” the Paris Peace Forum and the South-South Cooperation Financial Center jointly held a seminar titled “China-Europe Vision in Facing Global Challenges” on March 23. Lamy, now Vice Chairman of the Paris Peace Forum, told Caixin during the seminar that compared to April 2, 2025, when the ‘Day of Liberation’ tariff policy was announced, the decline in global financial markets this time has been relatively small. “Financial markets seem to be one of the most important factors that can pull back from Trump’s policies.”
